Eh, I don’t know how to describe myself. But I’m probably a lot more like you than we both know. I was born and raised in Indiana, and have lived in several parts of the state, including Indianapolis for 25 years. Until 2023. (More about that later.) My husband and I have been married since 2001. We both were married before, and each have 2 grown kids and a total of 5 grandkids from our first marriages.
My hobbies include nature walks, birding, being entertained by our many cats, crocheting, reading or watching true crime stories, and writing. I have recently found myself with enough time and energy (and patience!) to do more than the usual work-takecareofhouse-sleep cycle. As a result, I have started some new things, like this blog, cooking more from scratch, and some crafty projects.
How It Started
About 5 years ago, when discussing vacation plans, my hubby and I decided to go somewhere neither of us had been. He was in the military for 33 years, and has been almost everywhere. Not wanting to spend a fortune, we looked for a place not too far from Indiana. We ended up travelling the western coast of Michigan for a week, and loved it. The next year, we travelled the eastern coast, and loved it more. A few more vacations, and we started joking about retiring in Michigan. At some point, one of us said, “Why not? What’s stopping us??”
At that moment, everything changed. We started working toward a goal of moving to Michigan. The adventures ensued! But here we are, in the middle of Michigan (literally, right near the middle of the state). Here’s a few pics from our trips to the Great Lakes.
Cats.
At one point, I ran a cat rescue out of our home. I rescued many cats, adopted out a few, and kept most of them. Currently, we have more than a handful and less than a dozen. Exact number? I plead the fifth to avoid incriminating myself.
Coffee.
I am addicted to the bean juice. It’s not really about the caffiene, but more about the flavors. I am not horribly picky, as long as it has more sugar than coffee. White chocolate mocha with almond milk and caramel sauce.
Creativity.
I enjoy writing stories, poetry, texts, anything really. I am a problem solver by nature, so I love puzzles and figuring out how to do something. Yes, I am the girl that loved word problems in school.
But this isn’t about cats…
While a huge part of my life, this blog is about challenges, change, and courage. I hope you find it amusing, and maybe inspirational too.
